My name is Mrs. Jessika Barnes and I am thrilled to begin a new year at Creech Road Elementary School. I love Creech Road and am so excited to be here for another year, teaching first grade!
I graduated from Nash Community College in Rocky Mount in 2010 and transferred from there to East Carolina University. At ECU, I studied Elementary Education with a concentration in Social Studies. I have taught Kindergarten and first grade, and have to admit that first grade is my absolute favorite. I am excited to learn and grow with my new class of wonderful first graders this year!
I met my husband, Kelly, while attending NCC. He transferred to ECU a year before I did, to study construction management, and decided a Bachelor's degree wasn't enough. He completed his Master's Degree in Construction Management in May 2013. We have been married for a little over two years now and live in Knightdale.
We don't have any children yet, but we do have a silly cat named Sammie, who keeps us laughing with his crazy tricks. He loves playing with bouncy balls and also enjoys attacking my feet and legs anytime I walk past him. :) Neither my husband nor I ever expected to get a cat, since we've always considered ourselves to be "dog people," but Sammie has completely stolen our hearts. Sammie loves to run up and down the stairs at our house a lot and likes to "race" me to the top. He's a people lover and will curl up in just about anyone's lap to purr himself to sleep. He's such a sweetheart!
Well that's a little bit about me. I have already figured out that I have the smartest, sweetest class in the state and I am so excited about this fantastic new school year ahead!
